As you may or may not know, about a month ago, our Admin Assistant Nik had to step away from his work with Alberni Arts, and at the time he couldn’t say much about it. Now we’re thrilled to share the news: Nik and his mother are opening Frida’s Kitchen, an authentic Southeastern Mexican restaurant at the bottom of Johnston Road!
As an artist himself, Nik has always had a deep love and respect for artists, and he wanted his new space to reflect that. Alberni Arts is partnering with Frida’s Kitchen to fill its walls with the bright, beautiful work of local artists, with every piece available for purchase on consignment.
We’re looking for colourful, joyful, and contemplative pieces that catch the eye. Work that sparks conversation across the table and brings a little extra warmth to the room.
What we’re looking for:
- Large statement pieces (about 4): roughly 30 x 30 up to 40 x 32
- Medium pieces (about 6): roughly 24 x 20 up to 30 x 24
- Small pieces (about 7): up to 20 x 16
- Two wide pieces for over the kitchen and bar: up to 44 x 26 and 36 x 32
- Two display areas for sculpture or 3D work
All work must be ready to hang (wired or with hardware)
Alberni Arts is taking a $5/piece administration fee to help arrange the artwork for Frida’s Kitchen. To apply, use the application form here.
Here’s to good food, great art, and a community that shows up for both!
