We're hiring a temporary Gallery Attendant to join our team!

The Community Arts Council of the Alberni Valley is seeking a Gallery Attendant to join our team! This role is perfect for someone who loves art and wants to learn about gallery operations and gain customer service experience. The ideal candidate will have some customer service experience, retail experience, an understanding of social media and a passion for the arts community.

Hours & Compensation:

This temporary position will be at the Grove Gallery at the Harbour Quay for a duration of 10 months for 31hrs/week at $18.50/hr. This position requires one weekend shift and the occasional event attendance.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

Front Desk/Gallery Attendance

  • Greet and assist visitors, sharing information about our current exhibitions and gift shop offerings.
  • Handle payments and perform daily reconciliations with a keen eye for accuracy.
  • Manage incoming phone calls and handle general inquiries with professionalism and enthusiasm.
  • Maintain a tidy and organized work station, ensuring a welcoming environment for visitors.
  • Monitor and respond to social media inquiries
  • Post to social media as needed
  • Assist managing members on CRM

Gallery Operations

  • Assist with hanging and tear-down of exhibitions.
  • Collaborate with local artists and members, fostering connections within our artistic community.
  • Gain hands-on experience in event coordination and represent the Gallery at various events with professionalism and passion.

Qualifications:

  • Customer service experience (answering phones, greeting patrons, taking payments)
  • Retail experience (tracking inventory, front and face product)
  • Problem solving and creative thinking
  • Working alone and as a part of a team
  • Comfortable working with the public
  • Comfortable learning new computer programs
  • Experience working with Google Applications, Canva and Facebook/Instagram

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A passion for the arts and community engagement
  • Good interpersonal skills and positive demeanor
