Dave Davies

Dave Davies is a Port Alberni–based watercolour artist who began painting shortly before retiring from a 38-year teaching career in England and Canada. With a background in calligraphy and pen-and-ink, he found himself drawn to watercolour, developing a style marked by thoughtful colour choices and a strong sensitivity to light. His work often captures more than the visible subject, suggesting a sense of atmosphere and life beyond the surface. In addition to watercolour, he has also created acrylic pieces, including his well-known oyster shell paintings seen around the community.

For a decade, Davies was an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists and a resident artist at The Old School House Gallery in Qualicum Beach, where he also served as show coordinator for the Arrowsmith branch. His award-winning work has been featured in Art Avenue magazine, including a spotlight on his oyster paintings. His sketchbooks span nine countries, and his artwork is held in collections across thirteen countries, reflecting both his travels and his commitment to sharing art, including portrait donations in Southeast Asia.
