Guy Langlois is an artist based in Port Alberni on Vancouver Island, where the landscapes of Canada’s west coast serve as both inspiration and home. His work is shaped by a lifelong connection to nature and a deep appreciation for the interplay of light, atmosphere, and place. As both an artist and environmentalist, Langlois believes in the power of art to inspire care for the natural world, inviting viewers to look closely, feel deeply, and consider their own relationship to the environment.

Langlois’ artistic journey began through a different craft: finish carpentry and fine woodworking.

Years spent drafting detailed plans, designing custom furniture, and creating intricate built environments instilled in him a precise eye for structure, form, and craftsmanship. This foundation continues to inform his paintings, where careful observation meets expressive, intuitive mark-making. Working extensively in watercolour and, more recently, in oil Langlois continually experiments with technique and process. His practice includes plein-air sketching, extensive research, and painting à la prima, allowing immediacy and emotion to guide each work. Influenced by artists such as Constable, Turner, Monet, and van Gogh–and drawing on his parallel life as a musician–he likens painting to jazz: fluid, responsive, and alive.

Today, Langlois devotes his time to painting, music, gardening, and exploring the beauty of the world that inspires his art.
