Johanne Barefoot’s journey began on March 23, 1961, the day she was born — but her true story started the moment she discovered oil painting. That discovery led her to her very first painting lesson, studying under a student of the legendary Group of Seven, an experience that would shape the artist she was becoming.

Over the years, her name evolved along with her — she is now known as J. Bearfoot. Her path carried her from east to west across the country, and since 2021, Port Alberni has been the place she calls home.

Today, she works across oil, acrylic, brushes, and knives — always experimenting, always evolving. Creating has been her lifelong passion, taking shape through food, pencils, camera, canvas, or glassware, depending on where inspiration leads her.

Her barefoot journey begins fresh each day, drawn from everything around her — the sea, the skies, the forest, and the endless canvases of her own imagination.
