I am an American born artist based in Port Alberni, BC. I have been living on this beautiful island for over 20 years. I work in a variety of mediums and formats. I think of myself less as someone following a single “brand” and more as a cartographer in the landscape of art. I’ve charted many mediums and followed the work wherever it leads. I let the story unfold as I go. The strongest works I make are almost always the ones that surprise me in the end.
The body of my work sits at the intersection of the everyday, the absurd, the whimsical and the strange: fantastical creatures, comedy, powerful expressions and hidden elements that reward a second, closer look. I enjoy learning about and experiencing the world around me; it has afforded me an attention to detail and sense of humor that I think comes through in my work.
My mission as an artist is simple: to make work that feels emotionally honest and kind of magical. I hope my pieces make people pause, smile, and notice the little details they almost missed.
