Julia Oscarson

Julia Tahnee Oscarson is primarily an abstract artist whose work explores movement, emotion, and the unseen rhythms of the natural world. She developed an early connection to painting and later studied Fine Arts at the Victoria College of Art.

Her practice is rooted in intuition and process, allowing abstraction to emerge through layered mark-making, texture, and fluid transitions of color and light. Influenced by her travels throughout Europe and Southeast Asia, Oscarson’s work reflects a sensitivity to place, atmosphere, and shifting states of perception.

While primarily abstract, elements of the natural world occasionally surface within her compositions. These forms appear suggestively rather than literally, serving as symbols of flow, freedom, and transformation rather than fixed subjects.

Oscarson’s paintings invite quiet contemplation, blurring the line between form and feeling. Through movement, depth, and restraint, her work creates space for the viewer’s own interpretation and emotional response. She is currently based in Port Alberni, BC.
