Born and raised in the oceanside town of Sooke, British Columbia, Trisha Joy Straub grew up playing on the beaches and in the rivers, surrounded by the natural beauty of Vancouver Island. Born to parents named Art and Joy, and into a family of many artists, creativity has always been woven into her life in one way or another. She now lives in Port Alberni, BC, with her husband and their three children.

Trisha is a multidisciplinary artist who has explored a wide range of mediums, including oil paint, oil and chalk pastels, and mixed media, while now primarily working in acrylic on canvas. Her work has been exhibited in solo shows, coffee shops, and juried exhibitions throughout Vancouver Island.

Trisha’s artistic style is constantly evolving. Earlier work explored nature, animals, and a short stint into erotic art, while her current practice has moved inward toward energy, spirituality, connection, and the mysterious force that brings life into being. She is increasingly interested in trying to capture something that cannot quite be seen: the spark behind life, the energy that connects us, and the feeling that exists beneath the surface of the physical world.

Outside of her art practice, Trisha holds a degree in Social Work and a certificate in Hairdressing. Her background has shaped a deep belief in compassion and a strong advocacy for kindness toward all people. Living with chronic pain, overcoming drug and alcohol addiction, and identifying as neurodivergent have also influenced the way she experiences and interprets the world, adding another layer to her exploration of energy, perception, and human connection.

At its heart, Trisha’s work is an ongoing exploration of what it means to be alive: an attempt to translate the invisible into something we can see, feel, and connect with.
