Help shape the future of the Alberni Valley by taking part in our Arts & Culture Community Assessment
The Arts Council is planning an assessment of our community to gain a well rounded picture of where we’ve been, where we are, and where we’re going. This involves a digital survey found at alberniarts.com/survey, one-on-one interviews and roundtables designed for specific groups in the community. The project will culminate in data used to inform the Arts Council’s 2026-2029 Strategic Plan.
Community Surveys begins at the Fall Fair
Check out our booth at the fall fair between Thursday, September 5th – and Sunday, September 7th, located in the Kinsmen hut.
We will be set up with a fun interactive station to get the community dreaming of a vision for Arts & Culture in the Alberni Valley!
Help support a Speaker Series
We are also excited to introduce a Speaker Series, bringing special guests to the Alberni Valley to share knowledge and highlight the many ways arts and culture enrich our lives, strengthen our identity, and drive our local economy.
Through these conversations, we will explore not only what the Alberni Valley currently looks like, but also what it could look like: a community alive with art, music, design, culture, and history. By donating to the Speaker Series, you will ensure these events are accessible and free to attend.
KEY TERMS IN THE ASSESSMENT
Arts & Culture:
Arts is to culture like soccer is to sports. Culture is the broader term that includes arts, language, heritage and more. We are an arts organization, so we like to think of it both separately and as a part of culture.
Reconciliation:
To renew the relationship with Indigenous Peoples, based on recognition of history, rights, respect, cooperation & partnership.
Access:
Whether it’s physical, mental, or financial barriers, there are many forms of inaccessibility in arts and culture spaces.
