Celebrating Kama Money’s Arts Community Impact

The Grove gallery wishes to invite the arts community to come and celebrate the life and work of local creative Kama Money, Saturday September 27th at 1PM. Kama often spoke openly about her journey with cancer and the role art played in her healing journey; as both a powerful mindfulness practice and creative outlet. Her leadership left a lasting mark on the Alberni Valley. She spearheaded the Urban Sketchers group and managed a Port Alberni Sketchbook account where you could find her sketching local businesses, homes, and landmarks that celebrate the heart of our community.

Earlier this year, Kama’s piece “The Frances Barkley”, depicting the Frances Barkley ship docked at the Lady Rose marina, won the Community Choice Award at the ‘Iconic Alberni’ exhibit. This exhibit was a collaboration between the Arrowsmith Rotary and the Grove Gallery that brought together the creative vision of 16 local artists, each offering a unique interpretation of what makes our region iconic. Along with winning the award, Kama’s work was transformed into a fundraising puzzle for the Rotary.

After a long wait, the puzzles are finally printed and available for sale. We will be presenting the puzzle as well as inviting local artists to share words about Kama’s influence and present work inspired by her. Join us for the celebration, Saturday, September 27th, from 1 – 2 pm, at the Grove gallery. There will be refreshments, as well as a card to sign for the family.
