Welcome to the WILD FISH art exhibit. I am Douglas Blackwell of Sockeyeking Artworks celebrating the Wild fish in our surrounding waters. The works are an art form known as Gyotaku- a Japanese way of recording the size and shape of the fish they caught. By using a pigment and rice paper you are able to lift a print of the fish showing all the natural beauty and details of the fish. I have taken the process a little farther by adding the colour and using a silk screen to apply the images to the canvas.
The purpose of this show and my artwork is to bring awareness of the wild fish in our waters and the need to preserve their habitat for future generations. As a lifetime fisherman, I see many of the natural WILD FISH populations in decline. There are many factors that have caused this decline including fishing, development, pollution, fish farming, ocean ranching, and climate change. I don’t know if there is any way to reverse these decline but first we need to start the conversation. What are YOU willing to do to stop and or reverse this trend?
Enjoy the Show!
