A local artist that captures Port Alberni’s landmarks through loose pen and watercolour sketches.
Kama Money is a local artist whose work captures the charm and spirit of the Alberni Valley through loose pen and watercolour sketches. Raised in Port Alberni, Kama returned to the valley after studying and teaching elsewhere, drawn back by her deep roots and connection to the community.
With a BA in English Literature and a Minor in Arts Education, along with a teacher certificate from VIU and UVIC, Kama also holds a Master’s degree in Community Studies from Athabasca University. She has taught English and Art at ADSS and Eighth Avenue Learning Centre, with a few years spent teaching in South Surrey/White Rock.
Now working from her kitchen table studio, Kama paints alongside her family—often chatting while someone cooks or drawing beside her son. Though currently unable to teach due to stage IV colon cancer treatment, she turned to art as a calming, creative outlet during a challenging time. Her approach is relaxed and expressive, favouring big brushes and working in layers over three sittings to bring her vibrant sketches to life.
Kama is inspired by the Urban Sketcher movement and artists like John Harrison, Steven Reddy, Matt Gibbons, and recently, the late local artist Al Ranger. Like these artists, she finds joy in portraying everyday scenes with energy and emotion, hoping to inspire others to see the familiar with fresh eyes.
She specializes in custom portraits of homes, cabins, and local landmarks—pieces that often spark stories and nostalgia from those who view them. “Seeing how happy my paintings make people is my favourite part,” she says.
