FREE Kids’ Art Classes at The Grove Gallery
To celebrate the upcoming performance of The Great Bloom, the Community Arts Council of the Alberni Valley is offering free drop-in kids’ art classes at The Grove Gallery. These sessions will take place on Saturday, March 29, April 5, and April 12, from 10 AM to 2 PM at the Harbour Quay location.
During these creative sessions, children will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of The Great Bloom. They will be invited to step into the story’s magical forest, create their own character, and explore the indigenous plants that shape the setting of the play. As part of the experience, they will also craft their very own “Mailfly” finger puppet, inspired by the small but important messenger in the story. In addition, each child will receive a scavenger hunt sheet to take home, helping them prepare for the play and deepen their connection to the story.
Families are encouraged to bring their children’s puppets to the live performance of The Great Bloom, which will take place on April 19 at 1 PM at the ADSS Auditorium. These drop-in classes are completely free and open to all, with no registration required. Children can stop by at any time during the session to explore, create, and engage with the themes of the play.

About the Play: The Great Bloom
Dawn is a young forest spirit, part of a magical species responsible for protecting the forest. Every year, young spirits embark on The Great Bloom, a tradition where they are matched with the plants they will protect for life. Wanting to follow in her peers’ footsteps, Dawn joins the journey, but something doesn’t feel quite right. As she tries her best to fulfill her role, her well-intentioned efforts lead to comedic disaster.
Caught between expectation and instinct, Dawn must find a way to save the forest while staying true to herself. Will she discover where she truly belongs? The Great Bloom is a heartwarming and hilarious adventure about self-discovery, community, and the delicate balance of nature.
