Naomi MacDonald, artist, resides in Beaufort BC at the foot of a mountain.
Residing among her many animals and dear husband, she observes and creates stories through the little critters she spies in her day to day to fuel her story book like illustrations. “All these creatures and personalities give me constant amusement and ideas for little drawings.” She says.
Naomi has led an interesting life, her parents being free thinkers, often taking her on many adventures down to Mexico, where she was inspired to draw suns and moons with faces in the style of Aztec Masks. She has always been drawn to art of any and all mediums. She was particularly inspired by the creation of a clay mask during a particular summer camp. The fact that she was able to mold and create a life with her own two hands has inspired her to keep creating those faces and critters that call to her in the night. Now she tends to illustrate mice, pigs, and others with pencil crayons and watercolours. Naomi is inspired by the older illustrated styles of Richard Scarry, Beatrix Potter, and Arthur Rakham. Stating that, ”In essence, I like older things back when people left their mark with such lasting beauty.”
She plans to return to clay in the future but for now it’s illustrations. She can do some custom work, mainly by additions or little signs. You can find her art cards in The Grove Gallery as well as her website tubbytwaddlecards.weebly.com, her Facebook page Tubbytwaddlecards, or reach out to her via email at eaglingeye@hotmail.com .
