Join us for a series of 6 worldbuilding workshops designed specifically for teens in grades 8 through 12. Over the course of six weeks, participants will dive into the thrilling process of creating their very own worlds, complete with unique maps, characters, and societies. These workshops are flexible and adaptive, allowing attendees to either engage in the full series for a comprehensive experience or select individual sessions that interest them the most.
The program starts after school from 3:30PM – 5PM
Grades 8 & 9: Tuesdays October 8th – November 12th
Grades 10, 11, 12: Wednesdays October 9th – November 13th
Cost: $15/class or $80.00 for six
Here is what the schedule will be like and what will be taught over the course of 6 classes.
Day 1: Introduction to Worldbuilding
- Focus: Laying the Foundation
- Activities: Introduction to the basic elements of worldbuilding: Who, What, Where, When, Why | Creating a ‘Vision Board’ to organize and visualize initial ideas
Day 2: Map Building
- Focus: Crafting Your World’s Geography
- Activities: Exploring different techniques for map making | Hands-on practice with drawing and digital tools to create diverse landscapes
Day 3: Character Development
- Focus: Bringing Characters to Life
- Activities: Developing detailed character sheets that outline daily activities and roles in the world | Group discussions on character dynamics and their impact on the story
Day 4: Social Structures and Logistics
- Focus: Structuring Societies
- Activities: Constructing models of different social hierarchies and governmental systems | Artistic expression through scenic paintings and drawings to visualize societal settings
Day 5: Crafting the Narrative
- Focus: Story Mechanics and Practical Application
- Activities: Delving into the backstory, logistics, and physics that govern the world | Interactive exercises to integrate all elements into a coherent story
Day 6: Polishing and Presentation
- Focus: Final Touches and Creative Exploration
- Activities: Reviewing and refining the created worlds | Preparing a presentation or showcase of their world | Opening discussions on various creative outcomes and future projects
Learning Outcomes: Participants will leave the workshops with a solid understanding of the creative processes involved in worldbuilding, equipped with the skills to continue developing their own worlds or start new projects. The workshops aim to foster creativity, critical thinking, and a love for storytelling.
